- Every citation is a real work — a source comes in by its DOI or from a search of the literature, never from memory. A citation to nothing cannot be printed.
- Quotations are read against the source — when the text is on file, a quotation that is not in it is caught before you are.
- Held to the length — the words or pages the course set, and the PDF's own text read back to prove it.

A DOI, a search of the literature, an entry you type from the book in front of you, or the whole project you already have — Typst files, figures and a bibliography, as they are.

The page, on the page: select a sentence, a figure or a table and ask about it. Change a line yourself. Every version is kept.

The paper stands on works that exist
A paper's facts are its sources. Paperingo keeps them as a list it can only cite from, and the bibliography is set from that list in the style you name.
Any citation style with a name — APA, Chicago, IEEE, the one your department publishes — and thousands more, found and attached.

The publisher's own record, fetched from the registry: title, authors, year, exactly as published.
By search
A search of the open literature returns real works with their DOIs, for you to add or leave.
By hand
An entry typed from the book on your desk is kept and marked as yours, so the checks say which sources are unverified.

It is set
Every write goes through the typesetter. A citation to a work not on file, a figure that is missing, a formula that does not close — refused where it happens, not found by your reader.

It is honest
A quotation is read against the source's own text. The length is counted in the unit your course counts. The pages are counted against the target.

It is read back
The text is pulled out of the PDF and read in order, the way a reviewer's tools and a plagiarism check will read it.
What it does not do: invent a source, a number or a line of a quotation. When it has not read something, it paraphrases and cites.
